Vitalik Buterin Didn’t Expect Ethereum 2.0 to Take This Long

Co-founder of Ethereum, Vitalik Buterin, speaks about the hindrances experienced so far in the making of Ethereum II.

As he spoke slightly in Mandarin, Buterin agreed that so far, the development of ethereum has been more time-consuming than he thought it would be. The calculated time for creating Ethereum I was three months but has now dragged on to eighteen months. He said he, along with other developers, had expected that the proof-of-stake process would take one year when in reality, the operation would require six years.

Major Updates

  • Internal disputes have been the major issues ETH 2 faces
  • Including the proof-of-stake feature will take six years
  • ETH 2 rollout to begin in 2022
  • Buterin says the project will be more scalable than ETH 1

The twenty-seven-year-old programmer continued by saying that there have been several misunderstandings across development teams and between team members. Calling them the greatest delay, he said that these conflicts constitute a more serious concern than the technological issues the teams have faced.

According to Buterin, Ethereum II will possess the scalability needed at wide-range business programs after combining rollups and sharding. Nevertheless, that is not predicted to happen until the end of 2022, going by the new estimated road maps.

In line with the Ethereum II plan, the development team will morph both networks at the dock toward the end of 2021 or by the start of 2022. The approved paperwork says that the initial plan was to work on scalability before merging by developing shard chains. But the boom of the layer two scaling solutions makes it more important to substitute proof-of-work by proof-of-stake through the merge.

Conclusion

Vitalik Buterin says the present version of Ethereum has experienced a level of success that has been somewhat detrimental to it, as high demand has given rise to increased transactional fees, making transactions expensive and leaving many users unsatisfied.

Speaking about Ethereum II, Buterin said the development team had hoped to clarify that the arrival of ETH 2 does not signify an end to EtTH but merely a name change. Bitcoin’s latest ordeals have made including the proof-of-stake feature all the more necessary. Information on Digiconomist shows that Ethereum proof-of-work system uses the energy requirement of Hong Kong, while the proof-of-stake network will consume about 99.95% less energy.

Question of the Day?

Do you think the ETH II will arrive at the estimated time?

I believe they should take their time to achieve something that will be for long terms while tackling the scalability issues, the time for the lunch either early or late does not really bother me.

Perhaps, the time factor could be a challenge one indeed.
