The recent COVID-19 pandemic which ravaged most countries of the world has inspired a lot of innovators to come up with contactless solutions for everyday transactions. One of such innovation is Cryptobartender, a device that allows customers to buy water, wines and other drinks, using EOS based tokens for payment.
As business resume activities in a post-pandemic world, proactive measures of disease control may necessitate a reduction in physical contacts when processing transactions.
According to a post made by blockchain blogger and cryptocurrency enthusiast Flodner, the device is one of the solutions that will improve contactless service, thereby supporting social distancing norms.
Origin and purpose
The device, which was designed by Ukrainian innovator- Vyacheslav Korotach, was first introduced in a Ukraine bar called Knygarium. The bar which is pro-crypto has its currency - KNYGA, built on the EOS platform. Holders of the KNYGA token had no issues converting it, as the token is pegged to the Ukrainian hryvnia at a stable rate.
So how was the device used in the bar? Cryptobartender served homemade wine to interested customers. The customers would scan a QR code to settle transactions or pay via their EOS wallets. The bar owners, wine distributors and winemakers receive their profit per trade from cryptobartender instantly. This speed is because of smart contracts- a feature that has distinguished blockchain technology.
The Knygarium group hopes to promote acceptance of cryptocurrency on a broader scale, with a focus on EOS tokens. Most of the regular customers at the bar had EOS wallets/tokens, which they used to pay for drinks/services, and also receive loyalty rewards.
