The government of China has designated some blockchain job titles as officially recognised jobs, through an announcement made by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security. Part of the responsibilities of this ministry is to draft and review labour policies for the Chinese government.

According to a publication on the People's Daily on the 6th of July, the list of official jobs has been expanded to include Blockchain engineering technicians", "Urban management grid personnel", "Internet marketers", "Information security testers" and "Blockchain application operations. This will be the third cluster of new occupations since the proclamation of the "Characterization of Occupation Classification of the People's Republic of China (2015 Edition)

This set of new occupations was openly requested by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security and compiled by proficient classification specialists. One reason referred to for conducting this classification is the improvement of data innovation. In the report, this is supposed to generate new requirements for network credit and security. General Secretary Xi Jinping emphasized that blockchain should be "taken as an important breakthrough in independent innovation of core technology."

This occupational classification may be useful to private companies that are seeking to recruit talents in the blockchain sub-sector. As it is now, a lot of the blockchain professionals are already working with several state agencies, leaving start-ups with minimal human resources to handle blockchain projects. With China's digital yuan project and proposed regional digital currencies, there already appears to be an excess demand for blockchain professionals in the state.
