Earlier in the year, Reddit proposed a crypto reward system, (something similar to what steemit did,) to reward users for engagement, and now, they are making plans to expand the infrastructure. The Reddit team made this known to the crypto community while requesting for solutions that will be scalable to accommodate its over 400 million registered users.
One of the possible reasons for taking steps to solicit for scaling solutions is the upcoming Ethereum 2.0 network upgrade. Some experts have touted that any big social media platform that uses the Etheruem network may also need to do their updates.
Therefore, the Reddit team has requested members of the ethereum subreddit community to suggest or create solutions that meet the scaling requirement of its network size. They have also asked interested participants to lend their inputs in reviewing the demo's submitted by other entrants, to come up with a comprehensive solution.
So are you a member of the ethereum subreddit community, and you want to join in creating this solution? Well, the team has made some requirements that the solution should meet. They had earlier noted that most of the existing solutions that are scalable were designed for purely transaction purposes, and more suitable for exchanges.
In conclusion, Reddit has told the members of the ethereum community that they should not consider this exercise as a competition, as there will be no payment for ideas/demos submitted. The only benefit, for now, is the fame that comes with providing the solution, associated bragging rights, and a sense of fulfilment.
