Biggest and most visited adult content website in the world Pornhub recently switched payments for its paid services to just cryptocurrencies.
This is following a fall-out with top payments solutions service providers; Mastercard and Visa. Implying that visitors or members of the Porhhub who intend to buy any of the company's premium service can only do so using a supported cryptocurrency.
Recent reports suggest that there has been an upsurge in traffic to the site especially in 2020, probably occasioned by the pandemic which led to a lockdown. By reported estimation, users consume over 11,000 hours of videos combined, every minute on pornhub.
According to the company, there were over 39 billion searches on the platform, with an average of 15 million visits in 2019. Putting this into perspective, and considering the upsurge in visits in 2020, this could be huge for the cryptocurrency market.
As at present, if a user desires to purchase any of pornhub's plan, the person would have to pay with any of the 13 supported cryptocurrency options currently accepted by the company.
Pornhub has now adopted the services of Probiller; a crypto-payment service provider. Probiller supports bitcoin (BTC), bitcoin cash (BCH), ethereum (ETH), tether (USDT), litecoin (LTC), ethereum classic (ETC), dash(DASH), tron (TRX), verge (XVG), nem (XEM), waves (WAVES), monero (XMR) and zcash (ZEC).
This new development evoked excitement on social media and several crypto-support forums. Crypto enthusiasts have been discussing the possibilities and prospects this change would bring to the globe towards the advancement of cryptocurrency.
It is yet unknown if this would be permanent or if Pornhub would revert to the old payment system, as their official webshop page only indicates that they are not accepting credit cards at the moment.
