Although the current price of Cardano is still a far cry from the $2.46 it was worth earlier in May, this %11 price surge brings the fourth-biggest decentralized finance (DeFi) closer to the $1.77 price it attained on Wednesday. Raising hopes of regaining and surpassing that once achieved $2.46 all-time high. The rollout of Cardano’s Alonzo Testnet commenced on Friday, an upgrade named after Computer and Mathematics scientist Alonzo Church.

Major Signals

  • ADA gains an %11 price increase on Sunday
  • Cardano set to go live with Alonzo Testnet in August
  • ADA’s Friday Alonzo announcement causes a price fall

This upgrade will include smart contracts to the Blockchain, which signifies that Cardano is intently on course to incorporating decentralized applications into its Blockchain. Ada’s Alonzo mainnet is scheduled to be fully operationalized by August.

In a YouTube video posted at the beginning of the week, Charles Hoskinson, founder of Cardano, said, “The most critical engineering path, integration path, coordination path, and community path are for the next 90 days”.

The inclusion of the smart contract feature will place Cardano in shoulder-to-shoulder contests with Ethereum, the cryptographic ledger with the next biggest market cap after Bitcoin. Since its inception (2015), Ethereum has allowed smart contracts and now accommodates a finance enterprise worth $60 billion.

Although updates of this manner usually cause price hikes, the price of Cardano dropped after Alonzo Church made the announcement on Friday. The price of ADA plunged alongside other Cryptocurrencies. Nevertheless, Sunday’s recovery has helped ADA reach a %25 rise in price over the past week.

Presently, ADA’s market capitalization is %1 billion higher than that of BNB, the fourth-largest market cap on the list. Cardano’s market cap is $10 billion below the USD stablecoin Tether and around $127 billion below Ethereum’s market cap.
