The ETH 2.0 beacon chain genesis will be released in about two months based on an unofficial report on an ETH developer.

According to an ETH 2.0 programmer, Ben Edgington, the deposit contract for the upgrade will soon be announced, and the staking will be out before the year runs out.

Major Updates:

  • The deposit contract for the protocol will be released in 3 to 4 days.
  • This will make it possible to transfer ethereum between ETH and ETH 2.0
  • The contract is also part of the few update required to initiate the protocol's new phase.
  • To finalize the new phase's launch, about 500,000 ETH will be locked after the network is released.
  • The new protocol will protect ETH from service denial attacks and provide a temporary increase in penalty fees.

According to Ben, the fee increase is a means to give stalkers more assurance in the advent of any issue. Even with low network participation, Ben believes the ETH2 is ready to move into phase 0.

Ben's statement was released after a breakthrough trial on Zinken tesnet a few days ago, which was regarded as the penultimate dress rehearsal before a launch date is set for ETH2 phase 0.

ETH 2.0 is really needed at this point to address the killing gas fees and redundancies within the Ethereum networks since the gas fee hike that has discouraged increasing frequent uses. Active user metrics have been dipping since Defi's boom. If ETH 2.0 phase 0 can address high fees as first priority, remittances and retail payment use cases would grow again.
