So far, three bodies in South Africa have publicly confirmed receiving requests. The bodies are Altcointrader, Luno, and Valr. They received requests from revenue collectors on “a selection of customers'' according to section 46 of the South Africans tax administration act.

The new tax assessment exercise will be directed solely at crypto users. The target customers consist of crypto miners and those in or speculating crypto investments.

For those in speculation, they are likely to be recorded as they will give way for future actions on policies binding cryptocurrencies in South Africa.

According to Valr , Farzam Ehsani, the firm is willing to abide by the jurisdiction of the SARS, although they are concerned over the privacy and data security of their users.

Regardless, the exchanges are willing to comply with the revenue collecting bodies’ requests. The acting general manager of Luno, Marius Reitz, has also stated that they were willing to obey the requests from the SARS.

As for Altcointrader, they are willing to comply, although they have chosen first to seek legal counseling. This is to assure sharing of such information stays within the legal binding of the privacy terms and conditions of the users.

As earlier discussed, task expert David Lesperance has advised that exchanges and individuals give full cooperation else they would receive the backlash in the form of unwelcome tax bills.

Conclusion

Regarding this, exchanges are fully compliant as they have promised to provide users with a suitable means to receive transaction history. This will help in carrying out any further procedures amounting to the latest tax directives.

I don't think that is a good idea, because the privacy and the data security of the users may be compromised in one way or the other.
