Key Takeaways

  • Elon Musk promoted Dogecoin again as the HUH token finally went live.
  • Bitget's license has been suspended in Singapore for promoting K-pop coins.
  • Binance chose three Nigerian reality stars as their African ambassadors.

Musk responded to a report that high Ethereum transaction fees are preventing investors from partaking in decentralized finance via Twitter, saying that web3—the idea that a decentralized version of the internet, driven by crypto technology will finally supplant Silicon Valley's web 2.0—"sounds like BS" and citing Dogecoin as an example.

Jack Dorsey, a founder of Twitter, resigned from his post from the social media platform this week to concentrate on web3 development and his payments firm Square, renamed Block. Dorsey was a leading factor behind Twitter's bitcoin and decentralized initiatives and has pushed for decentralized internet adoption.

"I thought nothing could be crazier than '99," Musk said in response to the news, alluding to the late-1990s dot com boom, during which investors invested billions of dollars into internet-based enterprises that ultimately collapsed.

Musk reaffirmed his support for the meme-based Dogecoin, tweeting "dooooge" in reaction to a Coindesk piece claiming that exorbitant Ethereum transaction costs deter smaller investors from using DeFi exchanges.

Similarly, PancakeSwap and Uniswap have introduced the much-anticipated HUH Token (HUH). With lofty ambitions to be one of the top ten cryptocurrencies globally, it appears to be a genuine contender to Dogecoin.

On the other hand, HUH Token appears to be more than simply another meme token, as its White Paper lays out its strategy for real-world value and utility.

Bitget's license has been suspended in Singapore for promoting K-pop coins

After a legal battle with the agency representing K-pop boy band BTS, Singapore-based exchange Bitget has lost its license.

The Monetary Authority of Singapore has allegedly stopped Bitget, a Singapore-based digital asset marketplace, following a dispute with an agency representing the popular K-pop boy band BTS.

Bitget lost its Singapore license after the contentious listing of Army Coin, a new K-pop-related virtual currency, according to the Financial Times on Sunday (ARMY). On the other hand, the crypto exchange claims to hold licenses in several countries, including Australia, Canada, and the United States.

The issue occurred on Oct. 25 when Bitget tweeted a tweet advertising ARMY Coin, which is named after the BTS ARMY — an acronym of "Adorable Representative M.C. for Youth," a South Korean boy band's fan base.

It reportedly utilized deceptive statements like "This currency exists for the welfare of #BTS" and "ARMY coin intends to take care of BTS members for the rest of their lives."
The firm is accused of violating the boy band's picture rights by displaying the new virtual currency on its website without authorization, utilizing the "ARMY" ticker and BTS' name and photos.

"We are presently investigating the legal breaches in this matter, including the cryptocurrency's violation on our artists' image rights without authorization from or consultation with the agency," Hybe said after learning of the cryptocurrency's listing on the Singapore-based exchange. All infringements and breaches will result in legal action.

Three Nigerian reality TV show stars have been named African ambassadors by Binance

Binance has appointed three previous housemates from the renowned Nigerian reality television program "Big Brother Naija" as brand ambassadors for the continent of Africa.

Binance, a top crypto exchange, has announced that it has collaborated with three former Big Brother Naija housemates as part of its ambition to expand its footprint in the African region. According to the exchange, the three former housemates, Hazel Oyeze Onou, Ikechukwu Sunday Okonkwo, and Pere Egbi, will assist the exchange in bringing crypto to the public.

Binance director for Africa Emmanuel Babalola described why the organization chose the three people and how their work will assist the exchange in reaching some of its goals in a statement published by Techpoint Africa. Babalola said:

"Our objective is to help people understand crypto and make incorporating it into their daily life as simple as possible. One of the things we've seen is how these individuals and their tales exemplify the Nigerian entrepreneurial spirit, hard work, and way of life. We have the objective of providing more Africans with the information and resources they need to attain financial independence, so it's a natural match, and collaborating with them is a huge victory."
