Networks are different Ethereum environments you can access for development, testing, ... It's hard to incentivise mining on a proof-of-work testnet which can leave it vulnerable.

For Ethereum to work in a decentralized way it needs a distributed network of nodes that can verify blocks and transaction data. You need an application, known as a client, on your device to "run" a node.

Networks are different Ethereum environments you can access for development, testing, or production use cases.
