The OCC chairman further expressed his concerns about how cryptocurrency has taken a lot of mental space for many individuals in the regulatory community.

Considering that Hsu called the cryptocurrency industry an enterprise that’s not fully grown and is built on an immature technology during a speech at a Harvard Law School discussion on October 11, these comments contradict his opinions on the technology.
Hsu also raised issues with the perceived FOMO condition in the cryptocurrency industry, which he claimed encourages baseless speculation rather than innovation.
He also said that his mistrust of cryptocurrencies stems from his dissatisfaction that the most revolutionary ideas have been overshadowed by sensationalism and a concentration on trading.
Hsu, who has served as the head of the OCC since May 2021, is also the organization's top economist and the supervisor of the federal banking system.
