Dissatisfied consumers in Nigeria have begun a boycott campaign against cryptocurrency trading site Binance. The activists are urging other African Binance users to join them in registering their displeasure with the exchange using the hashtag #Binancestopscamming.
Customers are furious with Binance after purported changes to the platform's terms of service that caused some users to lose access to their funds. Similarly, dissatisfied consumers detailed their problems with the exchange and their efforts to resolve them.

For example, Brown-Mi claims Binance terminated his account, preventing him access to his crypto assets. He tweeted:
That's enough; I'm a victim. My account has been frozen for about four months with over $500k in alt currencies. Is being black a crime?
Another user, Newnew, claims Binance banned his account over 10 months ago without providing a credible rationale.
Strong is the will, another user, compared Binance to "tyrannical banks."
In response to the claims, Binance Africa tweeted on January 26 that it has blocked access to several accounts. Although it said it solely bans accounts for genuine causes. This exchange was tweeted:
We sometimes block accounts to protect users' funds. We are sometimes obliged to ban accounts by law enforcement. We will never disable accounts without good reason.
The exchange said that dissatisfied users must fill out an online form to "check whether and why your account has been restricted."
Binance "will provide information about who to contact for the next steps" if a law enforcement agency requests a ban.
According to Binance, it is "committed to cooperating with law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety of our community and to combating fraudulent behavior throughout the sector." Binance is not out to con you."

The role of crypto in society is uncertain, given Tanzania's central bank's prohibition in November 2019.

However, a group of people refusing to be vaccinated against COVID-19 is allegedly looking to join them in Africa.
This "community" will include private chefs, TV shows, and crypto experts, according to a Vice report published Friday.
Liberty Places, the group's parent company, is a self-described real estate firm based in Zanzibar. It has previously shown interest in "the latest technologies, from blockchain to solar energy," and questioned the need for masks in pandemic response.
"Free of intrusive bureaucracy," the group complimented Zanzibar for not implementing "mask rules, social distancing measures, or lockdowns."
With almost 3 million new COVID-19 cases every day, many public health officials and lawmakers continue to call for social isolation, mask us,e, and vaccination and boosters wherever possible.
Many countries still only allow short-term trips, with proof of vaccination, quarantine at a hotel, and a negative COVID-19 test.
Tanzania is unique in that it allows US citizens to enter with only a negative test and no quarantine or vaccine requirements. Because of Zanzibar's modest population, it is unlikely to absorb millions of anti-vaxxers, enabling those afraid about the virus to retain social isolation.
