Google gets in on Ethereum Merge excitement with nifty easter egg

In recent times, Google is gradually getting attached to the events happening in the crypto space. For instance, the company has launched a Web3 team under the auspices of Google Cloud on the 6th of May, 2022.

Thus, when you type the terms "Ethereum Merge" or "The Merge" into Google's search engine, you will find a countdown ticker which shows the approximated time left until the Merge hits the crypto airwaves depending on the current difficulty, merge difficulty, and hash rate.

In a tweet made on the 9th of September, Google Cloud developer Sam Padila mentioned in a tweet that was made on the 9th of September that the timer was a "fun little surprise" and a show of regard for the work that has gone into the development of the crypto space in the last couple of years.

He explains that the work kickstarted from an idea that he pushed and supported, but it was executed by Google's search and labs team; alongside the discussion that brought about the implementation of the timer was an idea moved by him.

The timer countdown is accompanied by a cartoon of two joyful pandas reaching out to each other with their hands extended like they are about to hug, which is meant to get closer every time the Merger date gets closer. In the same tweet made by Padila, he mentioned that the timer is attached to the blockchain, giving timely updates as the date gets closer.

This timer works with ongoing data extracted from the blockchain through some of the nodes the google developers run and process.

It is interesting to see Google's interest in the Web3 space grow increasingly. Interestingly, there might be a sort of collaboration in the coming days, which will be the birth of something extraordinary and magnificent. Till then, we keep our eyes and ears open.
