China is one of the countries receiving a lot of state investment in blockchain projects. With over 140 use cases, the effects are beginning to show in Beijing, the nation's capital.
According to Beijing News, various government services are quickly moving onto the "blockchain." More findings from the Beijing Municipal Government Service Bureau on July 15 revealed that in the past half year, 140 specific use case scenarios were implemented to deliver municipal services. Also, 253 use cases were recorded for enterprises and 65 use cases for individuals in the aspect of digital certificates and identities.
In March, the Beijing Xicheng District Government Affairs Service Center introduced blockchain technology in covering use cases such as corporate cancellation, social medical assistance, marriage registration. There was also a use case application for on-site verification of electronic licenses, which made the process more convenient and faster. Before this, the Beijing Blockchain e-certificate comprehensive window verification platform had been implemented in Xicheng District, making it possible for staff to use the e-certificate online just by facial recognition.
As early as last year, the Haidian District of Beijing started the pilot of blockchain technology in the field of government services. In the real estate transaction use case, several municipal departments' data were shared on the chain, and materials such as ID cards, marriage certificates, and real estate certificates no longer required on-site verification. The number of on-site verification materials has been reduced from a dozen to three in the past. The time was also reduced from 15 minutes to 2 minutes.
Therefore, given these projects are still in their pilot stages, the benefits of blockchain technology that have been accrued so far are commendable.
