Congratulations to 2 players:
- visiblemoney with the answer:
It is no big deal if some Altcoin surpasses bitcoin in the value because value as a single factor cannot be considered as the best yardstick to move scarce resources to new Waves making altcoin.
The investors are actually the only ones who can make another coin value go higher than bitcoin if they feel that it will make more money for them.
The most important feature of a valid currency is to meet universal needs and that is what bitcoin has got. Considering bitcoin's constant improvement at implementing a fast and stable large-scale network (with SegWit and Lightning Network) in addition to being a backbone for core blockchain-based lending, eSport, prediction markets, financial cum stocks markets and a large community base of complex users.
To this end I think value should only be a compensation for a well-proven success, however, if the altcoin sudden value rise over BTC cannot be identified with more valuable technical innovations that give it distinct feature set and cutting-edge functionality that can accord distinct crypto market capitalization and good market share all of which made bitcoin a market-dominant, I simply conclude that the value of such altcoin would soon plummet.

Considering the pedigree of enormous groundbreaking success that bitcoin has achieved within the crypto space unrivalled for years, if some Altcoin surpasses BTC in value, it will definitely cause violent shifts of interests that shall reposition investors priorities of investment by going for less or outrightly avoiding BTC in favour of the new wonder-working altcoin.
The massive dumping impacts against BTC will make it lose value cheaply, get less demanded and even lose significant share in the entire crypto market capitalization.
The good news for the altcoin that achieves this feat is that the fascinated crypto users already seeking a better replacement for BTC in the spirit of sportsmanship or hatred of it will back the altcoin up steadfastly to retain the new position until another King of Crypto is enthroned again.
