2021 was a year of rapid growth in crypto adoption across Latin America's 20 nations and 14 territories.

Several conferences, groups, new laws, NFT initiatives, and the global market all had a role in making the previous year a memorable one for the region.

Let's take a look at some of the region's most noteworthy developments in the blockchain and virtual currency sectors.

Colombia Monetary Companies Collaborate with Crypto firms

There was approved collaboration between financial enterprises with the licensed financial institutions in the country and crypto organizations at the start of the previous year.

The legislators stated that the authorization was granted under the legislative framework for examining new solutions in the financial industry. It would be valid for up to a year.

Crypto Acceptance in Latin America

Despite its volatile nature, the growing maturation of the virtual currency industry in 2021 has prompted some countries in the territory to contemplate legally embracing it as a payment option. El Salvador's formal legalization of Bitcoin sent shockwaves throughout the region and the world.

The country's president's law on Bitcoin was overwhelmingly supported by many of its parliamentary assemblies, and it went into force in the third quarter of the previous year.

Cointelegraph declared that the Cuba Central Bank might accept virtual currency for trading and investment purposes.

Julio Velarde, the governor of Peru's Central Reserve Bank, revealed last year that the nation would work with some named countries' central banks to launch its CBDC.

Blockchain Land

Latinoamerica, a Blockchain land, was launched in 2020 and aired together on Decentraland and the Cryptovoxels metaverse.

The event, one of the biggest, took place in April and was dubbed the most innovative because it was aired simultaneously on two different digital environments in the ETH blockchain where people could connect and communicate.

NFT Upsurge in Latin America

In September, SeSocioNFT, an Argentine NFT site, began advertising and trading artwork by Latin American designers. The platform was meant to turn artworks generated by different artists into Non-Fungible tokens that could be traded on the site.

In December, a group of artists from Venezuela called La Tokenia launched their NFT exhibition on the Tezos platform.

At the same time, the Authority of Colombia has signed a mining agreement with the National Mining Agency that was registered as NFT on the Ether-compatible GoChain blockchain.
