These people may have a barrel load of XRP and want to dump them most safely and profitably. This is why they coordinate these pump-and-dump schemes and call them "pump and hold." The price surges; they sell their enormous amount of coins, hence earning profit.

It is evident in the current situation between Ripple Labs Inc and the SEC that these pump-and-dump are bad reps for the creators of XRP. The currency dump only adds to the burdens of the lawsuits. These coordinators earn at the expense of Ripple Labs Inc, newbies and those still holding XRP after the dump.
