Keycard is a New Hardware Wallet with Built-In NFC Technology

Status Network, the same cryptocurrency project behind SNT token, has launched its own version of the hardware wallet to compete directly with Trezor and Ledger Nano. However, unlike those very popular crypto hardware wallet devices, Keycard builds a hardware wallet with a size of a credit card, and it also features an NFC (near-field communication) technology that’s becoming increasingly common with flagship smartphones all over the world.

Just like Status’ other crypto-related projects, it tries to add many relevant features into one same product. Keycard is believed to have a mixed private messenger, Status app, DeFi browser all into one same wallet ecosystem. Status also promises to add new features into Keycard whenever they have new ones to add.

The beauty of Keycard is that it is also creating its own SDK for different operating systems, such as iOS, Go, and Android. The team is also launching its own API for various applications to connect to Keycard functionality.

Keycard core team members believe the right approach to popularize crypto hardware wallets is to create an industry standard that’s open-source and very welcoming to various different devices. They believe the current hardware wallets are often not very easy to use and are not able to interact with different devices with one standard API.

Keycard’s NFC technology would also help the device to be able to tap directly against an NFC-enabled smartphone as a second layer of authorization.
