It appears that the Venezuelan government has restricted access to some united states based businesses, including Coinbase and MercaDolar, two us-based financial services platform.
Venezuelans corroborated this report on twitter, as they vented their frustrations on the social media platform. At the time of this report, the government is yet to release an official statement to confirm if these actions were intentional.
However, a tech group on twitter known as Venezuela Inteligente, disclosed more evidence via screenshots, indicating that access to Coinbase and MercaDolar platform was restricted. The Mercadolar platform is a US-based company that offers international exchange services, including fund remittance to Venezuelans.
The group observed that this restriction was enforced in all major internet service providers in Venezuela. Yet, the authorities have not informed Venezuelans concerning the motive for this abrupt decision to restrict access to these services to Venezuelans.
With this kind of restriction in place, some Coinbase and Mercadolar customers resident in Venezuela have already started improvising to access the platforms. This development was also confirmed on twitter by a resident, who claims that he could access the restricted platforms via a VPN service.
