Lately, the most talked-about NFT is Sir Tim Berners-Lee’s source code for the World Wide Web.
It was Sotheby that announced it on Tuesday. They stated that the curated source code used to craft the World Wide Web would be auctioned off as an NFT on June 23. Furthermore, the auction will last till June 30 and will start at $1000. The auction will go ahead to fund various campaigns supported by Sir Tim and Lady Berners-Lee.
“This Changed Everything” is the title of the NFT collection, and it will comprise four pieces. The first is an original time-stamped collection of files bearing the source code written. The second is a moving picture of the written code of almost 10,000 lines. The third is a letter written by Tim reminiscing on the creating process of the code. The last is a digital “poster” of the entire code created from the original files using the Python coding language.
The entirety of the NFT will contain the Internet protocols of the World Wide Web. They are the Hypertext Markup Language (HTML), the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP), and the Uniform Resource Identifiers (URIS). Additionally is the HTML file bearing instructions on how to use the application by early internet users.
Conclusion
Many believe auctioning off the codes would be of great advantage to Sir Tim Berners-Lee. After three decades of creating the unpatented source code of the Internet, Sir Tim Berners-Lee would be getting the monetary value credit he deserves.
