Social media app Telegram has released a new feature that allows users to create accounts via blockchain-based anonymous numbers in contrast to cell phone numbers. Telegram, as is customary, hides people's personal phone numbers from users who have yet to be added to the app.
Henceforth, users will now be able to keep their numbers private from everyone, which might not go well with people who like privacy-focused features. Telegram has recently grown in popularity among crypto traders and experts. The release belongs to a 9.2 update released on the 6th of December, which also allows users to auto-delete timers on messages in new conversations.

In order to access the new features, users have to obtain "blockchain-centered anonymous numbers" from Fragment, a decentralized auction interface created by Telegram creator Pavel Durov. Fragment auctions off user names and phone numbers that are only compatible with Telegram.Users can purchase these numbers on the platform through Telegram's linked token, The Open Network (TON).
Unfortunately, some users cannot get these services from Fragment because of their location. For instance, United States users cannot receive Fragment's services. By purchasing a number, people can go ahead and receive verification code texts using these private numbers after signing in to Telegram.
People can acquire any number of fragments for 9 tons or $16, or they can purchase and sell them through auction.
