As we progress into the digital era, monetary policies change. Cryptocurrency, a digital medium of exchange, is now on the rise as many investors are trying to get their hands on projects they have an extent of control over. While you probably have an idea of the basics of cryptocurrency, you still have to learn more and more about the actual discussion: Dogecoin Vs. Shiba Inu.

It is a consensus that cryptocurrency is volatile and highly risky, but with great risks come great benefits, isn't it?

So, if you are a cryptocurrency investor, somehow you got to hear about the Dogecoin and Shiba controversy. Still, you don't know enough to point out which cryptocurrency is more valuable; then this article is for you.

Even if you are primarily into common cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, Ethereum, or Binance Coin, you can still learn one or two about these "upcoming '' currencies.

How Dogecoin Started

Dogecoin was introduced into the market by software engineers Billy Markus and Jackson Palmer in 2013 as a joke for crypto fans as accentuated by the Shiba Inu dog from the Doge meme present on the logo.

But, according to CoinMarketCap statistics, Dogecoin has risen to become the fourth-largest cryptocurrency by market valuation as some people think it is a legitimate investment despite its humorous impression.

Dogecoin is a currency that is built around hype as a single influential person can excite the market. A peculiar instance is when Elon Musk, the founder of Tesla, tweeted that he would like to own a Shiba puppy. This tweet sparked a 300 percent rise in the cryptocurrency price.

How Shiba Started

Shiba Inu, which is commonly known as Shiba Token, is a decentralized cryptocurrency. It was developed by an unknown party known as "Ryoshi" in August 2020. Shiba Inu is a crypto token that markets itself as "the Dogecoin killer" for reasons discussed later.

There is no smart contract utility for Shiba Inu, and any assets or rights do not back it. It is no more than a transferable token. Because Shiba Token is relatively new in the market, there is prospective room for development.

The developers are creating an opportunity for Shiba Inu holders to gain rewards through liquidity or staking. Shiba Inu is also mainly built around hype.

Differences between Dogecoin and Shiba Inu

The main difference between Dogecoin vs. Shiba is their form of currency -- Dogecoin is a coin, while Shiba Inu is a token. Also, in terms of the operational blockchain, Dogecoins has its blockchain. But the Shiba Inu coin, which is sold as SHIB tokens, is built on an existing blockchain. Dogecoin is a cryptocurrency that was created using the same technology as Bitcoin.

Shiba, on the other hand, runs on the Ethereum blockchain. Some may consider this a considerable benefit because it allows Shiba Inu to interact with the most popular DeFi projects. Most of these DeFi projects operate on the Ethereum blockchain too.

In terms of transaction speeds, Dogecoin outperforms a lot of its contemporaries. Dogecoin uses the Scrypt algorithm, as opposed to the SHA256 algorithm employed by Bitcoin. Because Scrypt is quicker and allows for a much faster block generation rate. Dogecoin is significantly more scalable than Bitcoin in theory.

Shiba, however, is based on the Ethereum blockchain, as we have established earlier. Therefore, its block generation time and transaction rate are intrinsically linked to its parent blockchain.

Dogecoin vs. Shiba: Which is the More Valuable Investment?

When it comes to investing, deciding between Dogecoin and Shiba is challenging since both currencies are community-driven, which means they are prone to wildly fluctuating prices, and there is little to be done in stabilizing them.

Knowing that cryptocurrencies are risk-associated, if you are interested in acquiring a holding of DOGE or SHIB, you should keep in mind that these are both meme currencies with no clear precedent for how their value may fluctuate over time.

Let's start by taking a look at the price history of both currencies.

For an originally developed joke concept, Dogecoin had a rather successful debut, with gains of about 300 percent just two weeks after it was launched. However, this was short-lived, as the DOGE value remained almost unchanged for the subsequent years.

In 2017, DOGE saw another significant price hike from $0.0002 to about $0.0090 by the end of the year. This was only temporary, but it was enough to show investors that Dogecoin was still viable in the dynamic crypto industry.

The value fluctuated afterward until early 2021, when DOGE's next massive increase occurred during a market-wide boom when prices reached $0.082 in February.

The communities!!!

The Dogecoin community then solidified its influence, propelling DOGE to new highs in April before hitting a record of $0.731. DOGE's price had increased by an astounding 9000 percent since the beginning of the year.

SHIB has just been around since 2020; therefore, there isn't nearly as much information as there is for DOGE. Shiba Inu was introduced at $0.00000001 -- a low enough price to allow for considerable growth while keeping SHIB cheap and sustainable.

As with DOGE, it wasn't until 2021 that SHIB had a glory to bask in. SHIB's price rose from $0.0000001 to $0.0000036 in April. This may not appear to be a significant increase at a glance, but this amounts to a 3500 percent increase in only a few days from an investor's view!

Shiba Inu has acquired the title of "Dogecoin Killer" since then. In May, hype began to build around the currency, driving prices up to a record of $0.0000379, indicating a remarkable rise over the coin's debut price only one year prior. SHIB, unfortunately, has dropped to about $0.00000683 per token at the moment.

To make a price prediction, taking a look at a token's past price movement may help. But considering the volatility of cryptocurrency, this is not a certain way to build a forecast. If you want to invest in Dogecoin or Shiba Inu, gathering price forecasts from top experts can help you make a far more accurate estimate.

Moving into demand and supply, how is the market like for Dogecoin and Shiba Inu?

Unlike some cryptocurrencies that restrict their supply to generate scarcity, Dogecoin uses an inflationary approach to stay true to its objective of building a real peer-to-peer digital currency.

The assumption is that this will keep transaction fees low as investors cannot hoard the token or pull significant amounts out of circulation.

Also, Dogecoin's supply is continually expanding at a pace of about 5 billion DOGE per year. This ensures that there are enough tokens in circulation to facilitate transactions.

Consequently, just like conventional currency, market forces will eventually determine how much DOGE is released into the network.

In terms of the supply system, Shiba Inu's developers have adopted a completely distinct approach. SHIB has a 500 trillion circulating supply that is set at a one quadrillion total limit.

Meanwhile, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin burnt a substantial portion of the supply. It's unclear if giving him the token was the intention of Shiba developers, but it was widely seen as a negative response from the Ethereum founder.

Well, according to the Shiba website, the remaining SHIB that Vitalik Buterin did not burn is completely locked up in the Uniswap exchange. This means that if you seek to trade SHIB, the trade must be made in the open market.

Dogecoin vs. Shiba: What Experts Have to Say

When it comes to meme coins, there are certainly a lot of different viewpoints. Undoubtedly, Dogecoin's most well-known interaction is with Elon Musk.

He appears to have shown support for the token in several tweets. He once described Dogecoin as "the people's crypto" and has even tweeted that he wants to get a Shiba Inu puppy.

However, crypto expert Nic Carter is not exactly optimistic about Dogecoin's pro

spects. He said, "Unfortunately, a lot of retail punters are going to lose money on dogecoin in the long term because there's not much there in terms of interesting technology." This statement got some crypto investors reconsidering their plans on requiring a holding of DOGE.

Most investors and experts are aware that Shiba is attempting to capitalize on the DOGE hype. Still, Ben Caselin proposes that the hype should not be discredited straight up.

On the other hand, Jay Hao, OKEx CEO, believes the Shiba community has gathered tremendous momentum from the weekend deposits. He claims to look forward to seeing Shiba develop positively in the crypto market.

It's impossible to ignore the fact that both Dogecoin and Shiba are largely based on hype. While both have fully operational foundations, neither of them has contributed anything particularly new or revolutionary to the blockchain. In order to expand its possibilities.

Notwithstanding, investors should not disregard or underestimate the power that community-led crypto ventures hold. The year 2021 has demonstrated the importance of community in the crypto market. Also, technical innovation does not always imply success.

Both Dogecoin and Shiba Coin have their risks. But it's the dramatic fluctuations in price that make meme coins quite an appealing investment for those who think they can time it effectively.
