Venezuelan Mayors have signed the "National Tax Harmonisation Agreement" for 305 districts and also approved the Petro (PTR) to serve as a means of collecting penalties and tax payments.
They have now agreed with the plans of the government to expand the use of Petro. Due to this campaign, the use of PTR has increased widely.
Delcy Rodriguez, the country's vice president, will lead the execution of the project. With the aid of a digital consultation tool, she would execute a single registry of the taxpayer, says the government. Rodriquez would also oversee the creation of build monitoring and data exchange systems for firms to record payments in the state's digital currency.
The country has 335 mayors, and 91% of the mayors are authorized by the United Socialist Party of Venezuela, PSUV. Just 30 of the districts are led by mayors of rival parties.
The opposition-led local government is still collecting tax payments in the country's fiat currency, Bolivar, because some of them do not possess the right tech and resources to process PTR payments.
Fuel stations across Venezuela are accepting Petro payments. About 15% of all fuel purchases are being paid with this coin, as reported by the government on the 11th of June. This surge happened in the first week of the campaign to increase the use of PTR.
