  • Iran is one of the countries with a favourable stance towards crypto assets

The INTA, in a report this week, urged financial regulations in the capital to regulate crypto exchange service providers. An excerpt from the report noted that it was necessary to regulate exchanges due to the potential taxes generated from them.

The Tax Agency also warned the government against implementing harsh policies for the local crypto industry. According to the INTA this could lead Iranians to black market sources to exchange their cryptocurrencies.

It also added that there should be comprehensive punishments for crypto service providers that do not adhere to KYC regulations. The INTA has proposed three different types of tax that will be applied to the crypto industry if regulations are passed.

The first tax will be placed on profits made from trading, while there will be a fixed tax and an occupational tax. It has not elaborated how the taxes will be implemented, but there are expectations that concrete details will be available in the coming weeks.

Iran is one of the few countries where the government has openly admitted interest in the blockchain industry. As a result, the Asian nation has a vibrant crypto-mining industry that is regulated by authorities.

However, crypto trading has surprisingly been left by the Islamic republic. This is likely to change with this proposition from the tax agency. It remains to be seen if the Iranian central bank would accept this recommendation.

The bank has not been open to crypto adoption with previous statements from key stakeholders against the volatile nature of crypto-assets.

Do you think the Iranian government will implement the recommendation from INTA?
