The present market turbulence occurred after the Federal Reserve of the United States announced intentions to cut its bond holdings in the coming months in order to fight inflation.
According to the minutes of the Fed's meeting, policymakers were unable to reach a consensus on when the Fed would begin rolling off its Treasury and mortgage-backed assets, although the process may begin as early as 2022, and potentially as soon as the next few months.
Most participants felt that it would likely be acceptable to begin balance sheet runoff at some time after the first rise in the target range for the federal funds rate was announced. – The minutes were read aloud.
El Salvador's government is drafting legislation to regulate bitcoin bonds
El Salvador's finance minister, Alejandro Zelaya, has announced intentions to introduce roughly 20 proposals to Congress in an effort to offer legislative clarity and a framework for the issuance of Bitcoin Bonds and other securities denominated in bitcoin.
As reported by various sources, the aforestated laws will include restrictions for the issue of securities as well as legal framework and certainty for anybody interested in purchasing a Bitcoin bond. In contrast, the Finance Minister refused to provide any specifics on when the legislation would be filed to the legislature.
The announcement follows the Central American country's declaration in November that it will issue Volcano Bonds. El Salvador's President, Nayib Bukele, commented on the development, saying that the action also intends to completely re-engineer the economy and the manner a nation-state does business.
According to Zelaya, investor interest in Bitcoin bonds is high, particularly given the fact that they offer exposure to the world's biggest cryptocurrency while also having a 10-year maturity and earning 6.5 percent interest.
The highly anticipated Bitcoin bond product is scheduled to launch later this year. A remarkable $1 billion has been invested in it, with the proceeds being used to support Bukele's vision of establishing the world's first "Bitcoin City." Some of the most famous players in the cryptocurrency industry, including Bitfinex, a renowned cryptocurrency exchange, and Adam Back's Blockstream, will be involved in the building of the first-of-its-kind city.

Bitfinex CTO Paolo Ardoino previously said that the exchange intends to support El Salvador's proposal by launching a securities platform that would house the Bitcoin bonds issued by the country.
It will be a fully functioning city, according to the president's own vision, with suitable residential zones as well as shopping centers, restaurants, a port, and "everything that revolves around Bitcoin." A single value-added tax (VAT) will be collected on future inhabitants, and this money will be used to pay for municipal bonds, public infrastructure, and other general maintenance expenses.
The La Union area in the country's easternmost province has been chosen to host the program. Geothermal energy from the Conchagua volcano in El Salvador will be utilized to power Bitcoin mining facilities, thanks to the country's ample supply. Many experts think that the use of geothermal energy, which is now being squandered, might make El Salvador into one of the most profitable Bitcoin mining locations in the world if it were put to use for Bitcoin mining.
