Key Takeaways

  • JP Morgan Strategist Nikolaos Panigirtzoglu believes Ether’s price is overvalued
  • Panigirtzoglu conducted research that concluded that Ether’s actual value is $1,500
  • Ethereum still remains the leading smart contract network despite major competition

This statements are credited to Nikolaos Panigirtzoglu, who noted that Ether faces several challenges and is no longer special within the crypto space.

Panigirtzoglu stated in a report that his team had performed extensive research on the Ethereum network and worked out its true value.

The research revealed that the fair price for Ether is around $1,500 per token, which is less than half of its current market price.

However, the report also noted that no major spike in usage and traffic suggests that Ether is worth its current value in the market.

Panigirtzoglou added that Ethereum’s value proposition as an effective smart contract platform no longer holds the ground like a few years ago.

The problems with scalability and high transaction fees mean that many projects are switching to faster alternatives like Solana and Binance Smart Chain.

He, however, concluded that the reason for the current value of Ethereum was due to the confidence the market has in the future developments of the blockchain project.

Furthermore, Ethereum is undergoing rapid infrastructural changes that will change its current consensus mechanism from Proof-of-Work to Proof-of-Stake.

This is expected to increase its scalability and reduce transaction costs that have plagued the network in recent years.

Despite the bleak outlook of the report, Ethereum continues to lead the market in innovations.

The DeFi and NFT sector is largely within the Ethereum blockchain, and despite the efforts of other blockchains, developers continue to build products on Ethereum.

It will be interesting to see if this trend changes in the coming years.
