Recently, Ethereum moved to make a system transition to proof-of-stake (PoS). This development has sparked concerns among a lot of crypto communities and raised opinions from stakeholders in the industry as well. A recent instance of that is the attack rolled out by Micheal Saylor against false information about Ethereum’s current move.

For what he regards as "misinformation and propaganda", Bitcoin (BTC) autonomist Michael Saylor has launched a fierce attack regarding the effects of mining BTC on the environment and proof of work (PoW) in the wake of Ethereum's switch to proof-of-stake (PoS).

Michael Saylor slams "misinformation" about Bitcoin’s energy use

The recently-retired CEO of MicroStrategy on Wednesday, released a detailed article on his Twitter account outlining seven of his top-notch and clear ideas concerning BTC mining and its environmental consequences.

One of the main points he used to stand on was the fact that PoW BTC mining is not energy efficient, contrary to popular belief. In contrast to this stance, Saylor now states that the mining system is the purest industrial utilization power and is rapidly increasing its energy efficiency through several industries.

He supported his claim with data from the Bitcoin Mining Council, a group of 45 companies that claim to represent 50.5% of the global community, which published the Q2 International Bitcoin Knowledge Mining Evaluation in July. Saylor further noted that, according to their measures, 59.5% of the energy used for bitcoin mining stems from green sources, and their energy efficiency increased by 46% yearly.

Saylor's claim coincides with a period when the BTC mining sector is under intense scrutiny for its claimed ecological consequences, resulting in prompts by several US states to take action to outlaw cryptocurrency mining. He also asserts that mining is more environmentally friendly than significant internet companies like Google, Netflix, or Facebook because of network upgrades and progress in semiconductors.

Saylor stated that a town valued at $420 billion today is powered and guarded with approximately $4–5 billion in electricity. He further asserted that industrial power usage other than bitcoin mining accounts for 99.92% of global carbon emissions.

After examining the figures, Saylor doesn't think environmentalists' objections against PoW mining are fair. Instead, he believes it is an effort to direct unfavourable emphasis on Proof-of-Work mining and draw attention away from the uncomfortable truth that Proof-of-Stake crypto assets are often unauthorised securities traded on uncontrolled exchanges.

In one of the more prominent prison cases right now, Ripple is being sued by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for allegedly selling unauthorised securities in the form of XRP Saylor concludes by asserting that all the criticism of PoW mining obscures the potential advantages for the entire globe.

He stated that Bitcoin mining could usher in a pure, thriving, and contemporary sector that produces hard currency for rural areas in impoverished countries, reachable solely by satellite link. Micheal Saylor made solid points in support of Bitcoin mining and shut down a lot of misconceptions about it. It's safe to say his opinions have gone a long way towards sensitising many ignorant people.
