One of the most prominent and oldest wine manufacturers in China, Changyu has launched a new project with Tencent, another notable brand in the tech sector, to build a blockchain-based wine traceability platform. The project will use blockchain technology to combat counterfeit products and showcase the lifecycle of Changyu manufactured wines.

According to a statement from the wine company, customers will be able to follow each progression of the wine-production, including planting, preparing, sales, and marketing. The platform will be accessed via a digital certificate that will be generated for each bottle of wine produced.

Changyu intends to document every aspect of the wine's life cycle on the blockchain network, with unique QR codes attached to each bottle so that customers can authenticate the wines. Further details about the raw materials, such as grapes, types, rainfall/irrigation, and even the type of soil and fertilizer, will also be available.

This will be the first time that China's wine industry will be using blockchain technology to support its operations. It is also believed that with the introduction of the blockchain traceability platform, the issue of fake wines, will be easy to curtail, as even the sales and distribution agents can verify their supplies on the platform.
