Devs working on Baseline suggested blockchain-based applications for coronavirus contact tracking.
Google and Apple are developing a contact monitoring system that will include cross-platform APIs to enable health authorities to control users. All companies addressed the roll-out of tech upgrades this month.
The program proposes utilizing the Bluetooth Low Energy phone to locate specific gadgets within 30 feet of each other. This will enable the identification of infected individuals by proximity detection. In people who come into contact with a reported viral carrier, an immediate warning can help to provide timely access to the testing facility.
The second part of this project is now planned for later this year. In this upgrade, software companies will incorporate their contact tracking systems into the operating system of devices — removing the need for surveillance by health authorities.
John Wolpert, Group Executive at ConsenSys, describes two significant incentives for a malicious agent to manipulate Google and Apple's proposal. He said: "You could nefariously put someone's Bluetooth key on your list and trigger chaos; you might find a way to set your state 'infectious' and trigger chaos... or set yourself 'free' when you're not." To address such problems, Wolpert proposes a solution.
To address such issues, Wolpert proposes a scheme in which the "Bluetooth key and other attributes [are] shared via Bluetooth with devices nearby. But instead baselined such that we have evidence that both parties have genuinely verified that they are similar to each other; no more chance of repudiation."
