As reported by the Herald, the Minister also highlighted that his ministry plans to make some concessions on digital assets. However, Contrary to his previous statements where he praised cryptocurrencies, Ncube explained that digital assets must not be considered currencies; instead, the ministry is trying to group the asset as an investment rather than a coin.

He explained that the ministry would produce crypto-based products via the Victoria Falls Stock exchange platform, set aside within the offshore region.

Citing the Victoria Falls Stock Exchange (VFSE) as the best platform for Crypto transactions means the minister reiterates the opinions that Zimbabwe Stock Exchange head Justin Boni once expressed.

Bgoni once opined that the VSFE was set to list some Cryptocurrencies for investment on the platform. However, he further explained that listing such an asset will require the approval of the Country’s regulatory body.

Ministry about to form Crypto ETF

In his speech at a Seminar held in Dubai, Ncube indicates that the Nation is already operating the process required for approving Crypto in the Nation.

He explained that the first step had been carried out already, and the sandbox has been created at the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ), where the idea and all other necessary things are currently undergoing testing in a secured and regulated atmosphere from where the ministry will then move it to the safe Victoria Falls environment.

At the same time, the report also noted that Ncube mentioned that the Zimbabwe finance ministry is also collaborating with unnamed investors in Dubai in creating a Cryptocurrency index. As per the Minister, the successful creation of that index would form a cryptocurrency Exchange-traded Fund (ETF).

The Minister also made it known that the Country has also involved investors collaborating with the finance ministry to form Cryptocurrency ETFs.
