Jon Prosser's channel with 262k subscribers was brought down by YouTube after it was used by the Bitcoin scammers who switched the name to NASA. Several YouTube viewers were deceived by the attackers to send Bitcoin after verified accounts were attacked, and scam videos on Bitcoin showing Elon Musk were posted.
The channel was brought down by YouTube, leaving it offline for about 2hrs after Prosser became aware of the attack. YouTube says "I would have to fill out a form and wait for some weeks", Prosser stated. So far, the attackers have acquired four thousand dollars in BTC.
For some months now, YouTube accounts have been the target of these hackers. High profile individuals such as Elon Musk, Chief executive officer of Ripple, and Steve Wozniak, one of the founders of Apple, were impersonated. These public figures have filed different lawsuit against YouTube.
Prosser stated that a Sim swap was used in the hack to enable entry into his channel with the attackers using its two-factor authentication.
This hack occurred 24 hours after Scott Melker encouraged crypto investors to always use an authenticator application from any device that is offline instead of using SMS verification for their 2FA.
Prosser is not the only victim of the hack. Talyta Rocha, with a channel of 155k members, was also attacked. Right now, another channel with 295k followers has been used to post a scam video on Ethereum.
