The news was made public by Co-founder of EC10, the firm responsible for Crypto Index Fund. He announced the instutue’s plans of launching the county’s first Bitcoin ETF project.

Experts say the project would give investors indirect access to Bitcoins, as all successful ETFs do.

This is an effort to refurbish crypto involvement in the country. This would re-engineer the nation’s crypto community and could heighten adoption once more. Previous letdowns due regulatory issues have inspired a downfall in over trading volumes with a once crypto-friendly nation.

The application for the potential ETF has not yet been lodged. However, it is believed to be carried out in line with the Johannesburg Stock Exchange body (JSE).

Furthermore, he explained that before furthering proceedings, his firm , would partner up with Easy Equities. This is so that a viable custodian could be provided sorely to accommodate holdings:

“To get to the level where we will be compliant with the requirements of a listed instrument, we definitely need the services of a dedicated, regulated, and registered custodian.

Therefore, as part of an arrangement, Easy Equities, which acquired the controlling stake in DCX Capital in 2020, will help secure the services of a custodian. This custodian will safely store some of the ten crypto assets that constitute the EC10 Index.”

Conclusion

Loxton rounded up by saying that EC10 would eventually increase fees by 1%. To justify, he mentioned that profits were very unlikely with current management fees. He also stated that a crippling start as a cryptocurrency enterprise signified the need to higher the fees.
