Previously, some people decided to fork Brave Browser because they want to get rid of all “adware”, including Basic Attention Token (BAT), the native crypto token that empowers the Brave Rewards system. This fork version of Brave Browser was called Braver. However, there are some legal threats from a “certain party,” and thus, they were forced to rename Brave to Bold.
The team of Bold Browser also claimed that they had to remove all references to Brave Browser. While they didn’t want to name who sent the legal threats, many critics point their finger to the team behind Brave Browser itself.
It looks like the Brave Browser team is not happy with the Bold Browser project. Many people, however, decided to support the Bold Browser project because they think the forced addition of BAT into the Brave Rewards mechanism was a greedy move from Brave developers.
Furthermore, the Bold Browser team also hinted that Bold would be the ultimate privacy-respecting, ad-blocking browser with next-gen implementation (that is, with IPFS and web3). They also promised not to make any tokenization reward programs. It’s interesting to see where Bold Browser would end up without any form of incentivization.
