The Commons Foundation, a South Korean NGO which is occupied with social investment projects has announced that they will be developing a blockchain platform that will help healthcare organizations respond faster in curbing epidemics.
According to the chairman of the Commons Foundation, Choi Yong-Gwan, data privacy of patients was compromised during the COVID-19 pandemic. While most people will understand that the nature of emergencies brought by the epidemic was not planned, he believes a solution that will protect the privacy of individuals, while managing the health crisis can be achieved.
The chairman further stated that the platform would help the government of South Korea to mitigate the escalation of disease outbreak, into an epidemic or pandemic situation.
The foundation intends to build this solution using MicroBitcoin, a public blockchain network. The reason for this choice is based on MicroBitcoin's reputation of being secure with the requisite lastest security architecture. All data will be encrypted to reduce the chances of data piracy or falsification. Each registered individual on the platform will receive a personal encryption key, which will be validated using mobile numbers or other mobility information.
Amongst other things that the foundation hopes to achieve with this initiative, the platform will also be used to track cases of infected persons. This data will be sent to an epidemiologist using the personal encryption keys, and a team of researchers can schedule further diagnosis based on the individual's information.
