The University of Tokyo, generally known as Todai, has announced its plans to offer a variety of study programs that'll take place in the Metaverse later this year. According to them, the goal is to provide a fresh way of learning to a variety of people, including University of Tokyo students, middle school and high school students, working adults, and so on.
These plans were made known to a lot of people after a Saturday report from the local news source, The Asahi Shimbun, where it was further stated that the courses would be accessible to pupils in high school as well as working adults.
Todai also expressed along with the announcement that there was significant demand from people from all backgrounds who wanted to learn the latest trends and innovations in engineering and information science in this era of quickly advancing technology and varied job styles.
They further explained that The Metaverse courses would be offered to solve the scarcity that comes with advanced technology and an increase in data value.
In other words, when pioneer technology gets created and data's worth rises, there will be a critical scarcity of qualified individuals to use these things to shape society's future. The University of Tokyo plans to use these Metaverse courses to improve this situation. In light of this, too, they want to emphasize the appeal of engineering, particularly to female middle and high school pupils. This is likely due to Japan's low number of female students majoring in engineering or information science.
Three initiatives make up the new program: a thorough engineering career site, a junior engineering education course, and a reskilling engineering education course.
The career website intends to hasten the diversification of the engineering sector by providing career information to girls who don't have many engineering role models.
The junior engineering education course, on the other hand, mainly centers around middle and high school students and their parents. The course mixes online and in-person instruction and includes courses that cover topics such as undergraduate engineering programs and post-graduation careers, as well as practical activities like product development and lab tours.
The last part, the reskilling engineering education course, focuses on working adults and students and assists them in retraining for a new engineering profession.
Numerous colleges, as well as online learning platforms like Coursera, offer online university courses. Students who enroll in The University of Tokyo’s Metaverse courses can teach them no matter where they reside. This effort is an additional way to develop a course that can accommodate the needs of a diverse group of learners with varying skill levels.
This innovation isn't the first, as specific courses such as the UK’s Inspired Education and Japan's Kadokawa Dwango Gakuen have implemented virtual space-related qualities into their deliverables.
