Following the announcement from Lithuania's central bank of a proposed digital currency debut, the Lietuvos Bankas(central bank of Lithuania's) has released a unique digital currency today to interested members of the public to purchase. This digital currency is one of a kind, different from other CBDC because it is also designed to function as a collector token, the first of its kind in a CBDC.
The token, called LBcoins, has been issued on the NEM blockchain. The token is also meant to honor or commemorate Lithuania's 1918 Act of Independence. According to the central bank, this unique token will be a hybrid of a digital currency, and collectors coin. The LBcoin is intended to bridge the gap between classical collectors and disruptive digital technologies. It is also designed to serve a symbol of national innovation while embracing financial technology architecture.
