Key Takeaways

  • The Merge will not lower gas prices or permit staking withdrawals.
  • layer 2 network solutions can help Ethereum users conduct transactions at a lower cost

In a note published on August 17, the Ethereum Foundation said that until the Shanghai upgrade, The Merge will not lower gas prices or permit staking withdrawals. As opposed to this, blockchain is concentrated on increasing user activity on the layer-2 network and transforming the mainnet into a "safe, decentralized settlement layer." Layer-2 network transactions will be less expensive as a result. According to reports, layer 2 network solutions can help Ethereum users conduct transactions at a lower cost.

The Ethereum Foundation clarifies that gas fees will not be reduced through the upcoming Merge upgrade

The Foundation also stated that following The Merge, Ethereum transactions won't become "much faster." The platform believes that users of the layer-1 network may not notice any difference in the speed of the network, even though minor adjustments will happen.According to the Ethereum Foundation, withdrawals "will remain frozen and inaccessible for at least 6–12 months following The Merge." Up to the Shanghai upgrade, ETH will continue to be staked along with staking prizes and freshly released tokens.

Validators, however, can access the "fee rewards/MEVs received during block proposal" via the mainnet account they manage. When the withdrawal feature is enabled, the Ethereum Foundation also addressed worries that there might be a large number of validator withdrawals by stating that "only six validators can exit per epoch (every 6.4 minutes), which is 1350 per day, or just 43,200 ETH per day out of over 10 million ETH staking."

To prevent a mass evacuation, the Foundation noted that the rate cap will be changed based on how much ETH is still staked. Users don't require 32 ETH, according to the Ethereum platform, to host a node on the network. There are two categories of nodes, block-suggestible nodes, and non-proposal nodes, according to the Foundation.

Other nodes which cannot propose blocks on PoS "perform an essential role in protecting the network by keeping all block proponents accountable" instead of being allowed to do so. Let us know what you thhink about this in the comment section below.
