Hackers have attacked the database of the Parkview Hospital with malware. Amid Coronavirus Pandemic, hackers have infected one of the most reputable health facilities in Colorado with a crypto-malware and are demanding some amount of cryptocurrencies to release the database.
According to Fox News on the 24th of April, the attack has disrupted quite a lot of IT infrastructures used in the Hospital. The management of the Parkview Medical Center confirmed that the facility was attacked on the 21st of April. The attack has rendered some of their IT systems, including their patients' database unusable.
Cointelegraph reported that hospitals had been victims of a ransomware attack in recent times, but there has been a decline since the coronavirus pandemic.
Fox News also reported that the facility has resorted to using the traditional paper record system to attend to their patients. The hospital assures the public that the quality of care provided to patients would not reduce.
Ransomware attacks are on the rise.
Ransomware malware attacks are evolving and have been tagged as one of the biggest threats to cybersecurity. A security firm discovered a new malware that requests for credit card payment instead of cryptocurrency as ransom.
Reports have revealed that some ransomware accepts Monero instead of BTC just to protect the identity of the perpetrators.
