The United States raises Alarm as North Korea's hackers' BeagleBoyz' Reawakens

News • 2020/08/28 • by Remitano

A notorious cybercrime group in North Korea is targeting America's banking institution and digital currency exchanges worldwide. For some years now, the BeagleBoyz have been laying low, but rumours have it that the gang seems to have rebuilt its gang from early 2020. The group has created a new theft technique to hack crypto exchanges.

The U.S. Department of home and security, FBI, U.S. cyber command, Treasury department, and other agencies are keeping a close watch on the reawakening of the BeagleBoyz as United States authorities informed on the threat they could cause the nation.

The malicious software the hackers intend to utilize includes COPPERHEDGE, a tool that can run commands on compromised systems, and exfiltrate stolen data. This tool is mostly used by experienced hackers to attack crypto exchanges.

Erich Kron, a security awareness advocate at knowbe4, mentioned in an interview with Cointelegraph that BeagleBoyz was well structured with global accomplices. He also stated that they also attack ATMs around the world withdrawing large amounts of money.
