Taro Aso, the Japanese finance minister made suggestions on how to tackle COVID-19. He says Blockchain could be used for contact tracing while ensuring privacy.
On the 24th of August, a speech on the blockchain global governance conference (FIN/SUM Blockchain and business) was given in Tokyo by the minister of finance for Japan.
The total infected Japanese is just over 60,000, whereas the whole world has recorded about 24 million cases. People were restricted from showing up at the conference regardless of the title of Aso's speech, and just a few were permitted to attend while the rest watched the live stream.
Aso says Blockchain could provide a solution in the struggle to prevent Coronavirus from spreading extensively. If a person test positive to the virus, it ensures the privacy of such a person is protected via contact tracing. Additionally, the technology would give those in charge a better way to contain the spread and avert any outbreak that could possibly occur subsequently.
The finance minister further stated that every dispute between the Japanese regulators and the blockchain community should be addressed to move forward.
Part of the blockchain community does not understand the technology and might be antagonistic due to this. He said the only thing required of them is to join forces to assess the best use of the technology under the best governance.
As a technology to be used to solve problems, Blockchain has earlier been proposed by the chief executive officer of Strategic Business Innovator Group, a financial services company group based in Tokyo, Japan. He stated three months ago that Blockchain could be utilized to trace and track the supply chain of important materials such as masks.
