The police force from New Zealand has successfully investigated and found $90 million, which was previously linked to a money laundering case of Alexander Vinnik. New Zealand Herald, a popular media in New Zealand, reported that 140 million NZD (or $90 million USD) was owned by a company that has been involved with Alexander.
This investigation was made possible thanks to the New Zealand police department’s cooperation with the IRS in the USA. The investigated money came from the victims that got scammed by Alexander years ago.
For those who are not aware of the story, Alexander was charged for money laundering worth of 300,000 Bitcoins (BTC) - which translated to over $2.8 billion USD. He laundered the money through BTC-e, which was a famous crypto exchange many years ago. The stolen BTCs were even suspected to be part of the huge Mt. Gox incident.
Alexander himself was caught by authorities back in 2017. He was found during his vacation time in Greece and was forced to appear at the French court at the beginning of 2020. Due to the charges of money laundering and extortion, the rumour is that Alexander might be extradited either to the US or Russia.
