Chilean government permits shipping companies an effort to create to integrate blockchain technology.

Chile has permitted nine freight shipping firms to work together and create a blockchain platform. The joint platform will be called Global Shipping Business Network (GSBN). The project has been tendered to the rival agency of few countries, including the US and South Korea, but they are yet to receive feedback.

Major Updates:

  • GSBN’s objective is to oversee cargo shipping matters and services, including clearing goods and issuing papers.
  • The services will be extended to other firms in the industry and will not be restricted to those that took part in its development.
  • The total amount to be spent on the project was not revealed.
  • Some vital information will not be sent via the GSBN platform.

A group of renowned individuals in the freight industry also gave their advice to the firms involved in the project. In Holland, the Rotterdam port recently announced a blockchain project in partnership with a few reputable firms to improve its services.

What do you think about the cargo industry adopting blockchain? Let’s discuss in the comment section.

Chilean FNE (National Economic Prosecutor’s Office) recently decided to allow nine of the country’s maritime cargo shipping firms to join forces and create a blockchain platform. This would be the first venture of this kind in the region, and it will likely significantly improve the shipping process. Blockchain technology’s use for improving supply chains is well-known throughout the world, and this tech has been used multiple times for such purposes. One example is the Netherlands’ Port of Rotterdam, which launched a pilot based on blockchain technology.

I think the success of cargo blockchain pioneered by Holland is what is fuelling Global Shipping Business Network (GSBN) supported by the Chilean government. In my opinion, the 9 indigenous shipping companies should have just design what they could possibly come out within their purview rather than seeking foreign collaborations with South Korea, USA and the likes because their initiatives may be delayed by foreign diplomatic relations and bureaucracy if it is ever welcome.
