According to the announcement of Dec. 16, Waves Enterprise signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ontology blockchain network to incorporate decentralized recognition tools through the Waves Enterprise e-voting framework.
As part of the collaboration, Waves Enterprise and Ontology seek to address one of the main problems of automated voting – device verification and identity. Companies are explicitly preparing to implement Ontology's latest decentralized identification approach known as the ONT ID.
Artem Kalikhov, Chief Product Officer at Waves Enterprise, told Cointelegraph Ontology that DeID technology would overtake other conventional approaches such as email authentication. "We're relying on traditional web authentication right now, through a registered email approach," he said.
Li Jun, creator of Ontology, clarified that the Ontology-powered e-voting integration would enable users to first build their ONT ID to connect their personal data and credentials. "Then their voting records can be traced back to a chain that is not erased," Jun said.
Jun stressed that the safety of consumers would not be violated as the ONT ID acts as a decentralized body. However, details such as hashes or transaction numbers can also be monitored, he said. "Users have the right to choose what specific information they would like to share [because] the data is wholly owned by themselves," Jun said.
According to Kalikhov, Waves Enterprise initially intends to incorporate the ONT ID as a module. "At the initial stage, our blockchains are most likely to operate separately from each other," Kalikhov said. In the future, businesses might make their blockchain networks interoperable.
The news comes shortly after Waves Enterprise launched its blockchain voting framework in November 2020. Targeting companies and board of directors, the device utilizes blockchain to anonymously monitor each vote without needing to disclose the identities of individuals casting ballots.
This device was previously checked in Russia during the legislative elections of the country in September 2020. Kalikhov argued that the recently released platform is very different from the one used in Russia, since the deployment was focused on "Russian cryptography" with different methods for authentication and anonymisation.
