A partnership between the local institutions with the India police has been formed to target illegal activities on the Darknet. The Indian government believes that there are too many illegal activities being run on the Darknet. For this reason, policies and methodologies need to be expanded to trace the illicit activities on the Darknet.
According to India’s Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), there have been various apprehensions related to Darknet drug transactions in the last few months alone. They are able to do this thanks to the NCB’s participation in the Operation Trance global enforcement initiative.
It’s also reported that the Indian police are now collaborating with 120 different research institutions to track illegal drug sellers on the Darknet. This crackdown on the Darknet has been warmly welcomed all over India because India has become one of the major markets for Darknet drug transactions since the rise and fall of Silk Road many years ago.
Many years ago, websites like Silk Road and Alphabay solely utilized Bitcoin as their currency of choice for transactions. In those websites, users were able to buy drugs, hacked accounts, and even fake passports. However, both websites have been shut down by the authorities. Since then, there have been many different new websites on the Darknet, and the India market has been among the fast-growing ones.
