When getting into crypto investment and trade, several security measures need to be taken to ensure the security of your crypto wallet. The basic password and the sorts are not enough because as technology and life continue to evolve, crypto hackers find new ways and tactics to steal cryptocurrency online, whether through exchanges or people’s wallets.
The first security tip has to do with Links; on Google, countless fishing sites are trying to steal your passphrase, fake applications constantly pop up, they get keystroke bloggers so that they could copy your password when you type it in, and they usually want you to enter your passphrase into a scam website.
To easily access links, you have to bookmark the link of your exchange so that you could easily and safely access the links through your bookmarks tab. You need to get the original link from a verified source; you can do this by going through the verified Twitter account of the website you want to access. You should always make sure that you are getting the official link because when you Google something like Coinbase, the top five ads that come up are usually scam websites trying to steal your money.
The search engines and all are not efficient in policing the level of scams going on, so you have to take care of yourself instead of relying on them.
Another tip has to do with downloads and downloading from strangers. It is advisable not to download files from strangers, such as people you just met on Telegram. You have to always go to the official sources for downloads and beware of the different types of scams you may encounter. For example, people saying that they have a magical mining thing going on where you will have to give them some Ethereum, and they will be giving you a certain percentage every week in Ethereum for the rest of your life; so they are trying to say that every week, you will be making thousands of dollars in passive income mining Ethereum? That is a scam.
The latest ones are Arbitrage trading scams; they use popular influencers’ profiles and say that you can join an Arbitrage Telegram group and make a lot of money.
The next tip has to do with your passphrase; your passphrase is that twelve or twenty-four-word phrase that is like your lifeline to your cryptocurrency. If you lose it, your crypto is gone, and if you give it to scammers online, you will also lose your crypto. You must never enter your passphrase into websites, and you must never give it to someone who claims to be from “Support.” Exchanges, Trading platforms, and verified websites will never ask you to input your passphrase.
Several security measures have to be taken to prevent the loss of cryptocurrency because you are always at the risk of scams on the internet. It is also advisable to use hardware wallets because they are considered the safest option.
