In its most recent monetary policy statement, Zimbabwe's central bank, the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ), stated that it prefers a central bank digital currency (CBDC) to virtual currencies. It goes on to say, "Effectively evaluating the potential of implementing a Zimbabwean CBDC, including particular design challenges."

In this respect, the Bank is building a clear pathway for implementing CBDC, which includes the present feasibility and evaluation stage, policy formulation based on the feasibility report's findings, and deployment modes.

The RBZ also stated that it would provide frequent reports on the CBDC project's development.

The RBZ also revealed in its financial policy paper that its fintech regulations framework, which began operations in March 2021, has received "112 enrollment on the site plus an additional 31 submissions at different phases." As per RBZ, the software and systems development sector represent about 48% of "active members."

In a Super Bowl sweepstakes, FTX is offering free bitcoin

FTX, a cryptocurrency exchange, revealed on Monday that it would be giving away bitcoin during this weekend's Super Bowl. According to the company's website:
