On the 10th of August 2022, Iran made its first international import of over $10 million in cryptocurrency. Due to the limitations and sanctions imposed, Iran chose cryptocurrency as its means of exchange. Plans have been made to fully embrace this cryptocurrency in September this year. Today, August 30, Iran's Trade Ministry stated that it has legalized the use of cryptocurrency payments for imports in an effort to boost the country's trade.

The usage of cryptocurrency for import payment has been permitted by Iran's Ministry of Industry, Mine, and Trade. This allows imports into the country to flow freely despite continued international trade sanctions.

Based on the most recent local news reports, Reza Fatemi Amin, the state's minister of trade, has confirmed that the detailed regulations that have been put in place with a focus on the use of cryptocurrencies for trade only and the provision of fuel and electricity to Bitcoin and cryptocurrency miners in the state have been approved.

Iran's Import Association has stated that a regulatory adjustment and clear-cut must be made due to the state's transition to cryptocurrency as the payment method for importation in order to avoid negatively impacting local businesses in the state or putting importers at a disadvantage due to ambiguous directives.

The minister stated that all aspects of cryptocurrencies are covered by the new legislation, including the procedure for granting licenses Due to this development, Iranian enterprises will be able to import automobiles into the country and a variety of merchandise can be brought into the country using the newly approved crypto methods instead of utilizing the United States dollar or euro as a form of payment.

Iran was subject to sanctions because of the development of its nuclear program. Due to objections to such development, a sanction was imposed on the state, causing the nation to be excluded from the international banking system. The acceptance of cryptocurrencies has made it simple for the nation to get over the restrictions placed on imports. This is conceivable because the government or other central authority has no control over or influence over public blockchains like Bitcoin and Ethereum.

In order to promote new mining operations in the state, the Trade Ministry of Iran approved over 2,500 permits in June of last year and awarded over 30 cryptocurrency mining centers permission to operate there. To relieve pressure on the national grid, illegal mining operations were shut down in the next month, and mining was also prohibited for three months.
