United States Departments of Justice, Homeland Security, and the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control publicized on the 16th of September that it has imposed a penalty on two international cyber-attackers responsible for stealing cryptocurrencies worth millions of dollar.

Russian duo, Danil Potekhin, and Dmitrii Karasavidi built various parody websites of legal digital currency exchanges to acquire login details of unaware victims before using falsely verified accounts to transfer their digital currency. The transfer was achieved via several intermediaries, after which they launched numerous pump and dump campaigns for low volume altcoins. The suspects swindled clients from three exchanges and carted away with at least $16.8M.

Steven Mnuchin, secretary of the treasury, stated that the fraudsters deceived Americans and businesses to steal crypto assets from their wallets. He further noted that the department would not stop utilizing the resources at their disposal to fight fraudsters and would carry on with the commitment to ensure the safe and secure use of developing technologies in the financial institution.

Two cyber-attackers in Malaysia were put in custody on that same day by the US department of justice for their involvement in hacking several businesses, NGOs, government, and tertiary institutions worldwide.
Both men would be facing a jail term of 77 years. Five Chinese fraudsters are still on the run.

I don't really understand why some people like defrauding others of their hard earn money, they just love reaping from where they didn't sow. Am glad they caught some of them, they really deserve their punishment
